If
you go to this water crossing you will see the lock
at Rothensee, Europe's longest canal bridge over the Elbe (918 m)
and the double lock at Hohenwarthe. With this gigantic traffic project, this
water crossing became the connection between Hannover and
Magdeburg-Berlin.
In
1877 the idea was to connect east and west. 60 years
later a boat lift was built as a temporary solution.
Plans were made for bridging the Elbe with a canal bridge.
66 years later that wish was granted. Since 10 October 2003 the water
crossing Magdeburg
is a fact.
